Troubleshooting Guide for Logon Problems
|
Troubleshooting Checklist |
This section provides assistance for those who encounter problems when attempting to Log On to Outlook Web Access (OWA). With the enhanced security of OWA 2003, it is recommended that you use the Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) browser to access OWA.
You need to also verify that you are using version 6.0 SP1 (or higher) of the IE browser. If your version of IE is not at least at version 6.0 SP1 you can download this version from the Microsoft download site.
AOL users can obtain IE 6.0 SP1 by
upgrading to AOL 9.0, which is available at the
AOL download site.
This troubleshooting guide will be updated as new solutions are
discovered, so you may want to refer to this page if you encounter
problems in the future.
Check the current version of Internet Explorer
OWA 2003 requires version 6.0 SP1 (or higher) of Microsoft's Internet Explorer. To find out what version of Microsoft Internet Explorer you are running, start the Microsoft Internet Explorer then click Help then select About Internet Explorer.

The help panel will then display the current version and service pack (SP) level.

AOL Users - Check your version of AOL (If you do not use AOL you can skip this section and proceed to step 4)

If your version of AOL is not at least version 9.0 be sure to check the version of IE on your computer.
If you need to upgrade to the current version of IE, there are two options available to you:AOL Users - Minimize the AOL screen (If you do not use AOL you can skip this section and proceed to step 4)

Delete cached Internet files from Internet Explorer's Temporary Internet files folder, locally-stored Web site information (cookies), and the history of viewed Web page addresses. Old information in these settings may cause problems when trying to log on to Outlook Web Access.
To clear the cookies, cache and history, perform the following steps:
Click the Tools option, then click Internet Options

The Internet Options panel is displayed. Perform the following on this panel.

Enter http://mail.midlandstech.edu in the
browser's address bar and press ENTER.
NOTE: If you are having trouble accessing Outlook Web Access, do not click on a favorite, bookmark or a stored link during this troubleshooting process. Previously saved links may not function properly. Manually enter the http://mail.midlandstech.edu address in the browser. You can save this new address as a bookmark for future use and delete old bookmarks or favorite links you may have used for OWA in the past that no longer work.

You should then see the MTC Outlook Web Access Logon page. If you do not see this page, verify that you entered the correct address and then re-try your connection.

Click the
button.

If the username/password panel returns, you may need to enter the Domain Name in addition to the username and password.

Some users have been required to the Domain Name in the username/password panel before they can access their email. When the "Enter Network Password" panel reappears enter your username and password and also enter the value mtc in the Domain box, then press OK .
Back | Top of Page | Log On
If the Enter Network Password panel does not show a Domain box and you need to enter the domain name, you can incorporate the domain name into the username as shown below. The domain name and username are separated by a back slash "\" character, which is typically located above the ENTER key on a standard keyboard.

| The example above illustrates how user John Doe (with a username of jdoe) would enter the domain and username on the same line in the User Name box. |
